A New Home

By Rev. Philip Bena, Program Director, Master of Arts and Divinity Christian Care Programs Lancaster Bible College

It was a moment of loneliness combined with a deep need to feel loved and secure. There was a man in her life and he offered the illusion of these things. Physical intimacy gave way to the discovery that she was pregnant. The man heard about his new reality and immediately disappeared because that’s what illusions do; they vanish. Once again, she felt alone. If that was not bad enough, she was now feeling frightened, rejected, and abandoned too. In the midst of this chaos, she clearly understood that if there was ever a time for help, the time was now.

Therefore, she decided to reach out and contact Gabriel Network. There she received real love, support, and the provision of a maternity home; if she wanted it. She decided to take a chance with nothing to lose and potentially so much to gain. Her journey finally led to the front door of what would become her new home and family for the foreseeable future. What would be the outcome of all this?

Thousands of years ago, God’s people found themselves in a similar situation. They had been wandering in the wilderness for forty years. Now, they were at the entrance to a new home that Christians commonly refer to as, “the promised land” (Deuteronomy 6:3). Before going in, God had previously assured them of His presence, provision, and protection (Exodus 3:17; Deuteronomy 11:25;). Therefore, they could move ahead with hope and the certainty that He would be with them. Suddenly, the entranceway opened and they began their new miraculous journey (Joshua 3:17).

In some ways, this sounds like many of the women who contact Gabriel Network. The details are different but their journey is the same. They enter uncertain; they leave encouraged and blessed! This effort is definitely worth our ongoing support through prayers and financial gifts! As you do that, may you be encouraged by God’s presence, provision, protection, and peace for “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever”. (Hebrews 13:8) For “he is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose.” (Missionary Jim Elliot)

Prayer: Dear Lord, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” (Mark 9:24) Cause me to trust you for provision and protection for me, those I love, and the ministry of Gabriel Network. Then, I will experience your peace in the midst of life’s present storms (Mark 4:39).
